In the advent of the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers (PPST), Surigao del Sur Division gears toward recalibrating Instructional Supervision (IS) to ensure that quality teaching will be lodged to schools and learning centers. Part of this recalibration is the intensive review of the PPST implementation for the past two years and the massive roll-out of the next 12 PPST indicators that will commence next school year.

Series of Focused Group Discussions (FGD) to education supervisors, school heads and teachers were conducted as part of gathering issues and concerns to lay plans and address the identified gaps. Onsite monitoring and observation to schools as well as intensive document analysis including evaluation of lesson plans and other relative evidences supporting quality teaching were also done to triangulate results and to design comprehensive solutions as mitigation response to issues raised.

As emphasized by the Schools Division Superintendent, Josita B. Carmen. CESO V, putting premium to instructional supervision should be the top priority since curriculum delivery is the heart of education. Quality education as one of the most basic public services should enable learners to develop all their attributes and skills to achieve their potential as human beings that will provide the foundation for equity in society.

Recently, SurSur continues to mobilize IS through providing workshops to education supervisors, school heads and master teachers through Capacity Building for Validators and Raters on Instructional Supervision, Reflective Technical Assistance and Roll-out of the Next 12 PPST Indicators. This is to assure that all schools and teachers should pedagogically and developmentally implement sound teaching-learning activities that educates learners in becoming an active and productive member of the society.
