SURIGAO DEL SUR DIVISION- Two secondary schools from this division bested over a number of schools in the entire country as they were adjudged as the national winners in two different categories during the recently concluded Brigada Eskwela Awards at PICC, Manila on November 28, 2019.
Anibongan National High School, Lianga 1 District, under the headship of Ms. Jean G. Coquilla for the second time garnered the First-Place Award in the Secondary- Medium School Category. Meanwhile, Tigao National High School, Cortes 2 District, headed by Mr. Jonathan L. Ambel also bagged the First-Place Award in the Secondary- Large School Category.
“Every year, SurSur Division continued to fortify Schools’ Maintenance Week which aims to bring together all education stakeholders to participate and contribute their time, effort and resources to prepare public school facilities ready for the opening of every School Year. And this resulted to consistently gain awards in the national level”, expressed Mr. Alex S. Mistula, Senior Education Program Specialist in Social Mobilization.
Moreover, Ms. Coquilla emphasized after the awarding ceremony that being a second-time national winner is a challenge because the school needs to maintain its standing and as a school head she has to take the lead role in planning the activities geared on making the school ecologically conscious, resilient, clean and conducive to learning.
Being the first-time winner, Mr. Ambel also shared that the recognition that the school received will boost the stakeholder’s interest to take part in the spirit of volunteerism and create a network of community- based organizations to foster total commitment to attain a higher learning status for the students through collaborative programs and projects.
To recognize and honor the internal and external stakeholders, this division will be holding the Stakeholders’ Forum on December 17.
